China's career wear the flag of ten years

China's garment industry started relatively late and lacked widespread popularity. To address this, the China National Garment Association established the "Career Wear Research Center" with the aim of promoting the development of professional wear in key areas. Today, workwear has evolved into a symbol of professional identity. When the protective function of professional attire diminishes, it combines with modern culture to provide not only industry identity but also physical comfort, psychological satisfaction, and cultural fulfillment. The integration of cultural heritage, style innovation, material advancement, and high-tech research places professional wear at the forefront of technological development. To elevate the overall standards of clothing design, production, and service, the association aims to support the sustainable growth of the industry through science and technology and cultural innovation. This initiative is expected to promote a rapid, orderly, and leapfrog development of the professional wear market. On June 29, 2010, the "China Garment Association Professional Wear Research Center" was officially launched in Beijing. Attendees included Jiang Hengjie, Executive Vice President of the China National Garment Association; Zhang Guangmin, Deputy Secretary General; Li Wensheng, Vice Chairman of the Science and Technology Committee; Li Li, an expert member; and media representatives. The event was hosted by Wang Zhuo, the Secretary General of the association. Over the past few decades, as the national economy has grown rapidly, the demand for professional wear has expanded significantly. More apparel companies have recognized the vast potential in the Chinese market and joined the production of professional attire. In recent years, numerous types of uniforms—such as prosecutors' uniforms, industrial and commercial uniforms, telecom uniforms, postal uniforms, security services, tax services, railway uniforms, and others—have been introduced, transforming professional wear into a fashion trend that emphasizes style, comfort, environmental protection, and health. In early May, Jiang Hengjie and a delegation of six visited Japanese apparel manufacturers, R&D institutions, and industry organizations. Reflecting on the trip, he noted that China’s sportswear industry started later, and there are still gaps in talent, technology, consumer attitudes, and market rules. The establishment of the Career Center aims to enhance the overall level of professional wear design, processing, and service, supporting the industry's scientific and sustainable development. Ten years ago, the casual wear sector was promoted by the China National Garment Association, leading to its significant global presence today. Now, the Professional Wear Research Center is being launched as the second major category under the association, aiming to create a decade of growth for Chinese wear and launch more renowned professional brands internationally. The center operates under a "industry-academia-research" model, integrating resources from enterprises, research institutions, and experts in design, materials, IT, and automation. It focuses on innovation, standardization, and international collaboration to build a strong professional wear industry. Current challenges include outdated fabrics, styles, and a lack of professional expression, but the center aims to address these through joint research, optimized results, and application-driven strategies. Jiang Hengjie emphasized that the center will focus on advanced technologies such as chemical resistance, anti-static, flame retardant, and waterproofing, as well as the development of uniforms for public sectors like finance, telecom, and law enforcement. It will also promote custom manufacturing models, IT integration, training programs, and the establishment of technical standards. The center also announced the launch of the "2010 China Garment High Technology Achievements Exchange Promotion Conference," which will be held in Shanghai. The theme centers on innovation, creativity, and creation, aiming to showcase cutting-edge achievements and foster collaboration between industry, academia, and research. The conference will feature exhibitions, awards, and discussions on topics ranging from high-tech clothing to eco-friendly materials and mass customization. Wensheng Li highlighted that achieving "better results, better application, and better enabling" will be crucial for China to become a global fashion power. Only by meeting these standards can the industry truly benefit from its technological advancements.
